KLARE HESTON, LISW-S I Licensed Independent Social Worker
Through her personal experiences, Klare recognized that understanding others was a natural process for her. Even though she felt that her heart has always been about being a therapist, Klare credits her training in driving and shaping her into becoming a professional ‘helper.’ Klare feels that she has been greatly influenced by existentialism, Gestalt psychology, Eastern philosophy, systems theory (couples & family), cognitive restructuring, and relaxation theory, all of which taught her to support, empathize, empower, challenge, and mentor others.
"In my work with people, I begin with the basic counseling axiom: 'start where the client is…' It sounds simple, but is actually essential, and has profound effects! In my experience, no two people I have ever met are the same. They may have many characteristics in common, but each is unique.”
Firmly believing that life rarely unfolds in a straight path, Klare doesn’t label her client’s problems or pain. Having witnessed clients derail from their therapeutic progress due to a variety of circumstances, such as illness, death of a loved one, a learning problem, substance abuse, etc., Klare feels that her clients can find their way back with guidance. By collaborating with her clients and contributing a variety of techniques, including those rooted in self-acceptance, Klare’s goal is to assist her clients in discovering their own path to personal healing.
While a born-and-raised-Clevelander, most of Klare’s adult life was spent in Virginia. Having worked as a therapist in a variety of establishments, an educator both on undergraduate and graduate levels; as well as her work as an adviser, trainer, online writer, and a clinical supervisor, Klare feels that her extensive work history adds to her ability to connect with her clients. Continued education also drives Klare, which allowed her to gain a 2-Year Post-Graduate Certificate from the Gestalt Institute of Cleveland, as well as certification in Family Therapy, Supervision, Mediation, and Trauma Recovery and Treatment (EMDR). Klare enjoys working with teenagers and adults.
